Retaining Physicians With Disabilities in the Active Workforce
Abstract
Sheets and colleagues 1 found that physicians with disabilities were at greater risk of leaving the active workforce than their nondisabled counterparts, although workplace accommodations mitigated this attrition. The troubling context is projections indicating that, primarily due to population growth in the US among individuals aged 75 years and older, demand for physician services is escalating well beyond supply, with a shortage of between 13 500 and 86 000 physicians estimated by 2036. 2
