Abstract image [ 41085‐71‐6 ] C 7 H 7 BrNO 2 S·Na (3H 2 O) (MW 324.96) InChI = 1S/C7H7BrNO2S.Na/c1‐6‐2‐4‐7(5‐3‐6)12(10,11)9‐8;/h2‐5H,1H3;/q‐1;+1 InChIKey = MTCIMTKVSPERPB‐UHFFFAOYSA‐N (reagent used as an oxidizing agent, brominating agent, and analytical reagent) Alternate Names : N ‐bromo‐ N ‐sodio‐ p ‐toluenesulfonamide; BAT. Physical Data : mp 150–152 °C. Preparation : prepared by the partial debromination of dibromamine‐T ( p ‐CH 3 C 6 H 4 SO 2 NBr 2 or DBT), which is obtained from chloramine‐T (CAT) and bromine. It can also be prepared by the bromination of tosylamine, with the later being treated with sodium hydroxide. Solubility : insoluble in ether, benzene, and chloroform; soluble in cold H 2 O; soluble in hot H 2 O; less soluble in EtOH. Analysis of Reagent Purity : by iodometric titration. Handling, Storage, and Precautions : irritant; keep containers tightly sealed and protect from light; although the trihydrate is stable. Bromamine‐B [ 16917‐09‐2 ] is the sodium salt of N ‐bromobenzenesulfonamide (C 6 H 5 SO 2 NBrNa·1.5H 2 O or BAB). It can be prepared from chloramine‐B (CAB) and bromine. The properties of bromamine‐B have found to be similar to that of bromamine‐T.
