Hafnium(IV) tert ‐Butoxide
Abstract
chemical structure image [2172‐02‐3] Hf(O t Bu) 4 (MW 470.94) InChI = 1S/4C4H9O.Hf/c4*1‐4(2,3)5;/h4*1‐3H3;/q4*‐1;+4 InChIKey = WZVIPWQGBBCHJP‐UHFFFAOYSA‐N (precursor to chiral hafnium complexes, esterification, and amidation catalyst) Physical Data: clear and colorless oil, boils at 30 °C (50 mTorr). 1 Solubility: soluble in toluene, alcoholic solvents, CH 2 Cl 2 , polar organic solvents. Decomposes readily in water. Form Supplied in: commercially available as a clear and colorless oil. Commercial samples can be contaminated with degradation products that contribute to turbidity. As such, it should be distilled fresh prior to use. Handling, Storage, and Precautions: hydrolytically unstable. Can be stored indefinitely in a glovebox or a Schlenk flask. The toxicity of hafnium salts is understudied, though they are believed to possess little toxicity. 2 Preparation: can be prepared with HfCl 4 and KO t Bu 3 or from the corresponding diethylamido complex and t BuOH. 1 These syntheses are best performed in a glovebox due to the instability of the product.
