Abstract

This entry explores dynamic assessment (DA), a Vygotskian framework that integrates assessment and instruction to enhance language learning. Unlike traditional psychometric models, DA emphasizes mediation within the assessment process, focusing on learners' responsiveness and learning potential. Key features include Vygotsky's zone of proximal development (ZPD) concept and various mediation strategies tailored to individual needs. The entry discusses the evolution of DA in the L2 field, including group‐based and computerized DA, and highlights the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots for scalable, personalized mediation. It also addresses challenges such as the need for empirical research on AI integration and the importance of emotional support in DA. Pedagogical implications for language teachers are outlined, emphasizing a growth‐oriented mindset and a three‐stage framework for implementing DA in diverse educational settings.
