Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of the key concepts in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies that promise to revolutionize the way we experience and interact with multimedia information and the world around us. It explores how these technologies can redefine our relationship with both the digital and physical worlds, offering unprecedented opportunities for innovation and creativity. Immersive experiences in VR and AR are most compelling when they engage multiple senses, creating environments that feel natural, intuitive, and realistic. Vision plays a primary role in VR and AR systems, delivered through high-resolution displays, stereoscopic rendering, and realistic lighting effects. Multisensory immersion and interaction are at the heart of VR and AR systems, bridging the gap between the digital and physical worlds. The chapter also presents an overview on the key concepts discussed in this book.
