Veterinary Rehabilitation Training
Abstract
Veterinary physical rehabilitation training can be achieved through various programs throughout the world. Each program offers unique credentials upon completion. The quality and duration of training programs are highly variable, making it difficult for both the public and veterinarians to evaluate individual qualifications. Most certificate programs require in-person (didactic and hands-on learning) classes, followed by examinations and in-clinic training. These programs are not formally regulated by the AVMA or any other institution. Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation has been fully recognized by the AVMA and the American Board of Veterinary Specialists since 2018. This differs from a certificate program in terms of time investment and the rigor of the training. Advanced training of veterinary technicians credentialed by the Academy of Physical Rehabilitation Veterinary Technicians or Veterinary Technician Specialists (VTS) in Physical Rehabilitation.
