Abstract

Ergonomics is the science of designing and modifying work environments to suit the needs and abilities of people. It aims to improve health, safety, and efficiency in the workplace. Veterinary rehabilitation is a high-risk profession for work-related musculoskeletal disorders, which can affect the neck, shoulder, hands, and low back. This chapter highlights some of the ergonomic challenges encountered by clinicians practicing in veterinary rehabilitation and gives practical solutions. The recommendations presented here are evidence-based and go beyond desk and chair designs or instructions on how to lift properly. This approach is holistic and considers the physical, organizational, and psychosocial factors that contribute to work-related musculoskeletal disorders.
