Surface Modification and Functionalization of Textiles by Ozone Application

Various methods are applied to textile products to give them new properties and make them functional. Ozonation is an innovative environmentally friendly surface modification method. Ozone gas creates physical and chemical changes on the fiber surface thanks to its strong oxidant properties. While changing the properties of fiber surfaces such as dye uptake, wettability, and adhesion, it is used in applications such as desizing, impurity removal, bleaching, color removal, patterning, denim industry, and decolorization in wastewater. In this study, the effects of ozone treatments applied to textile materials for different purposes are discussed, and it is emphasized that ozone can be an alternative to traditional chemical methods thanks to its environmentally friendly structure.
