Abstract

The impressive efficacy, practical utility, and design flexibility have vaulted inoculation messages into considerable prominence. Yet, the combination of increased popularity and message design variation may also correspond with message design ambiguity and confusion. As a result, this chapter offers theory-supported and evidence-based discussion on inoculation-focused formative research and premessage design considerations. Successively, the components of the inoculation message are deconstructed with their form, structure, style, content, and language discussed separately. Embedded in this discussion are distinctive opportunities and suggestions for effective message design. Additionally, specific examples are used to better inform inoculation message design and application.
