Device‐to‐Device Communication in 6G Using Machine Learning
Abstract
Device-to-device (D2D) communication is poised to play a pivotal role in the evolution of 6G networks, offering enhanced connectivity, lower latency, and increased spectral efficiency. This chapter explores the integration of machine learning (ML) techniques with D2D communication in 6G, focusing on how ML can optimize network performance, resource allocation, and security in decentralized environments. The chapter begins by outlining the fundamental concepts of D2D communication, highlighting its importance in 6G networks. It then delves into various ML algorithms that can be applied to D2D communication, such as reinforcement learning for dynamic spectrum management, supervised learning for link quality prediction, and unsupervised learning for anomaly detection. The chapter also discusses the role of deep learning in enhancing the adaptability and intelligence of D2D systems, enabling real-time decision-making and autonomous operation. Moreover, the chapter addresses the challenges and limitations associated with implementing ML in D2D communication, such as the need for large-scale data, the complexity of real-time processing, and the potential for security vulnerabilities. It offers solutions to these challenges, including federated learning approaches for decentralized data processing and advanced cryptographic techniques for secure communication. The chapter concludes by envisioning the future of D2D communication in 6G networks, emphasizing the transformative potential of ML in creating intelligent, self-organizing networks that can meet the demands of emerging applications such as augmented reality, autonomous vehicles, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
