Mitigation of Climate Change Eco‐anxiety Using Haloculture Technology in MENA Cities
Abstract
Climate change and global warming are affecting city's environment, human well-being, and sustainable development. Climate change poses serious challenges to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, which provokes eco-anxiety in people in cities. The MENA region is also struggling with drought and rising salinity crises, which are consequences of the climate change phenomenon, highly defective green space stability, and expansion in the MENA region's cities. Haloculture is an advanced plant-based technology that relies on saline soil and saline water, which can help to adopt, manage, and expand the green space in these situations. This chapter uses the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) approach to introduce and discuss “mental health issues and climate change,” “eco-anxiety and climate change relations,” “MENA cities struggles with climate change,” “how green space could reduce eco-anxiety?”, “haloculture technology possibility for green space development in MENA cities,” and also “mitigating climate change eco-anxiety results using haloculture technology in MENA cities.”This chapter proposes haloculture strategies and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) approaches to combat eco-anxiety defect in MENA region with green space management, adaptation, and expansion.
