Abstract

The droughts of the last decade and their aggravation in recent years have led farmers to turn toward green water agriculture. Green water was proposed and introduced for the first time by Falkenmark so that it can be managed more easily by separating it from blue water with a proper division of water resources. Also, by using this new concept, it is possible to make a more accurate evaluation of the role of water in the production of agricultural products in semiarid regions. Methods can be used to increase the useful amount of rainwater. This chapter explores the intersection of sustainable water resource management, economic development, and integrated environmental frameworks. This study investigates the role of green water, water stored in soil and used by plants in supporting agriculture, energy production, and ecosystems within the water-energy-food nexus. By emphasizing innovative strategies for efficient green water use, the research highlights its potential to enhance economic resilience, reduce environmental impacts, and ensure food security in the face of climate change. The findings underscore the importance of holistic policies that balance ecological conservation with socioeconomic benefits, offering pathways toward sustainable development.
