Abstract

This chapter highlights the importance of ecohydrology in environmental management, that is, the role of hydrological processes in maintaining ecological systems and services. It also highlights the important role of ecological services in maintaining our hydrology ecosystems. The principles of hydrology processes and hydrology services will first be outlined. The concepts of ecology and ecological services will then be discussed. The emerging policy and institutional frameworks surrounding ecohydrology in urban and rural settings will then be outlined. The findings of this chapter will highlight the importance of ecohydrology and its role in understanding the integration of hydrology services and ecology services for environmental management. The attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals will also be embedded within the findings of this chapter.
