Abstract

The digital revolution of farming has been a pillar in the development of sustainable agriculture and agri-business models across the world. This synthesis of 25 major studies identifies the vibrant shift towards Agriculture 4.0, driven by technologies ranging from IoT and AI to big data, remote sensing, and blockchain. The body of literature as a whole reiterates digitalization's role in increasing productivity, enhancing transparency in supply chains, and facilitating climate-resilient agriculture. In high-income countries such as the U.S., China, and some regions of Europe, digital agriculture is driven by robust policy support and infrastructure, while there are challenges for developing countries such as digital literacy, infrastructure deficiencies, and governance. Ongoing trends in precision farming, intelligent dairy management, and data-based decision-making are also identified through the analysis. The main limitations are data privacy, non-interoperability of digital tools, and the socio-economic digital divide that hits smallholder farmers. Education, policy change, and inclusive innovation become crucial catalysts for equitable transformation. This holistic realization of global progress and challenges creates an anchor platform for stakeholders seeking to adopt or upscale digital solutions within agricultural domains.
