Abstract

The convergence of cloud computing, big data analytics, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies is transforming farming practices with smart decision-making systems. This paper provides an exhaustive overview of recent developments in cloud-based agricultural Decision Support Systems (DSS), their functions to enhance productivity, sustainability, and operations efficiency. A scan of 25 most significant studies shows that distributed processing models, geospatial processing, machine learning, and real-time sensor data are critical to facilitating precision agriculture and data-driven decision-making. Different models—ranging from environment monitoring systems to complaint management systems—show how integrating cloud infrastructure with AI methodologies is efficient in crop care, resource allocation, and environmental monitoring. Additionally, various research presents integrated platforms assisting smallholder farmers with real-time advice, weather forecasts, and risk management. Data standardization, system integration, and security issues remain challenges, but technologies such as blockchain incorporation and smart architecture are resolving them. This article highlights the increasing importance of cloud-based smart farming and how it can help resolve the threat of global food security while ensuring sustainable agriculture.
