Sustainable Agriculture and Environmental Impacts of Digital Technologies
Abstract
The digitization of farming is transforming the quest for sustainability, and a wide variety of innovations from precision agriculture and digital twins to ICT platforms are improving productivity, environmental management, and resilience. This review combines evidence from 25 recent studies that cover the world's impact of digital farming on sustainable development. Key areas are the use of smart farming devices, ecological technology uptake, and digital economy models in driving sustainable behavior, particularly within emerging markets and post-pandemic recovery situations. The research demonstrates a strong correlation between digitalization and better decision-making, resource utilization, climate resilience, and food security. Challenges still exist in the form of limited infrastructure, digital literacy deficits, and unequal access across geographical divides. The research calls for policy change, capacity development, and stakeholder cooperation in order to realize the full power of digital innovations. Additionally, new methods such as digital twins and AI-based systems provide promising avenues for agricultural systems transformation. The review highlights that although digitalization is not a silver bullet, it is an essential driver of sustainable agricultural systems that adhere to international environmental and socio-economic objectives.
