Abstract

Fertilizer quality assurance is critical for enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security. Traditional certification methods are plagued by inefficiencies, lack of transparency, and vulnerability to fraud. This paper explores the implementation of blockchain technology to revolutionize the fertilizer quality assurance and certification process. Blockchain's decentralized, immutable ledger enhances traceability, transparency, and trust among stakeholders, including manufacturers, certifiers, distributors, retailers, and farmers. The proposed framework utilizes smart contracts to automate certification issuance and regulatory compliance, ensuring data integrity through cryptographic hashing and consensus mechanisms. Additionally, real-time monitoring and verification are facilitated through integration with IoT devices, enhancing the reliability of data inputs. This study addresses key challenges such as data authenticity, scalability, cost implications, and legal compliance while showcasing real-world implementations and case studies of blockchain in agricultural supply chains. The findings suggest that blockchain-enabled certification systems significantly improve transparency, reduce fraud, and streamline quality assurance processes, fostering trust among consumers and stakeholders. The paper concludes by highlighting future research directions, including integrating AI-driven predictive analytics to enhance quality monitoring and exploring wider adoption across other agricultural inputs. This research contributes to developing sustainable, efficient, and reliable fertilizer certification systems, promoting agricultural innovation and food security.
