Abstract

Effective crop management in contemporary agriculture and early disease prevention depend on accurate leaf health classification. In this work, we investigate a complete framework including deep learning and conventional machine learning methods to identify plant illnesses from leaf photos. Using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), the proposed deep learning method automatically generates hierarchical features from raw photos, thus supporting strong classification under different environmental situations. Following carefully engineered characteristics including color histograms, texture descriptors, and form analysis, a standard machine learning pipeline is constructed complementally and then uses algorithms such Support Vector Machines and Random Forests to produce categorization. By using hybrid models and transfer learning, the dual approach solves data variability and limited annotated datasets. Experimental results show that although deep learning techniques yield excellent accuracy with enough data, with smaller datasets classical methods provide interpretability and efficiency. Still major challenges are noise, variances in illumination, and dataset bias. Future research will concentrate on constructing lightweight models for infield diagnostics, optimizing model performance, and enhancing generalization over several crop kinds. In precision agriculture, this all encompassing strategy shows promise for scalable and efficient disease control. These encouraging outcomes help to shape smart farming going forward.
