Integration of Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain
Abstract
The convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology presents a transformative opportunity for advanced global healthcare systems. AI contributes significantly by enabling automation, predictive analytics, and intelligent decision-making across complex healthcare processes. Complementing this, blockchain offers a decentralized and tamper-resistant framework that reinforces data integrity, security, and trust in AI-driven applications. The chapter further examines the integration of federated learning (FL) and blockchain as a novel approach to secure, privacy-preserving collaboration among distributed healthcare providers. By allowing institutions to train shared models without exchanging raw data, this framework addresses critical concerns around data ownership and patient confidentiality. Real-world case studies such as the use of IBM Watson in combination with Hyperledger Blockchain for medical research illustrate the practical applications and impact of these technologies in clinical and research settings. In addition to highlighting the potential benefits, the chapter also critically addresses the challenges associated with implementing AI and blockchain in global healthcare contexts. Through this comprehensive analysis, the chapter underscores the importance of thoughtful design and policy frameworks in realizing the full potential of AI and blockchain to support secure, scalable, and intelligent healthcare systems worldwide.
