Abstract

Nanotechnology has emerged as a promising avenue for advancing sustainable agriculture by addressing waste valorization challenges. The integration of nanotechnological approaches for the efficient utilization of agricultural waste is explained in the current chapter, emphasizing its potential in sustainable farming practices. The increasing global demand for food necessitates innovative solutions to manage agricultural residues effectively. Nanomaterials offer unique properties, enabling targeted and controlled interactions with waste streams. Through nanotechnology, waste valorization in sustainable agriculture encompasses various aspects such as nutrient recovery, soil enhancement, and pest control. Nanoparticles (NPs) enable the controlled release of nutrients from agricultural residues, fostering improved soil fertility and crop yield. Additionally, nanomaterials facilitate the remediation of contaminated soils, contributing to the overall health of agricultural ecosystems. Nanopesticides, with reduced environmental impact, provide an efficient means of pest management. Furthermore, nanosensors aid in the real-time monitoring of soil conditions and plant health, enabling precision agriculture practices. While nanotechnology holds immense promise for sustainable waste valorization in agriculture, careful consideration must be given to potential environmental and human health implications. The transformative potential of nanotechnology in converting agricultural waste into valuable resources, promoting ecological balance, and advancing the sustainability of modern farming practices is elucidated.
