Valorization of Biomass Wastes for Energy Production
Abstract
The energy landscape is changing globally to include more renewable and sustainable sources. The need for alternative energy sources has attracted more attention due to climate change, depletion of fossil resources, and environmental issues. A potential solution to these problems that also increases energy security and rural development is the production of biofuels from biomass wastes. Fossil fuel consumption has a major impact on air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which exacerbates global climate calamities. Concerns regarding long-term energy sustainability are also raised by the finite supply of fossil fuels. In this case, producing bioenergy from biomass wastes is a creative solution with substantial positive effects on the environment and the economy. Biomass waste is a renewable resource that may be grown and exploited sustainably. It comprises organic waste, forestry by-products, and agricultural residues. A greener and more sustainable way to utilize biomass waste's energy potential is to convert it into biodiesel, bio alcohols, biogas, syngas, and biohydrogen. These biofuels can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels by either completely replacing or blending with conventional fuels in transportation, industry, and energy production. In this chapter, we will discuss how to combine cutting-edge technology, interdisciplinary collaborations, and sustainable practices to address the technological, economic, and environmental concerns associated with producing biofuel from biowastes.
