Abstract

Climate change and sea level rise have consistently impacted millions of people through cyclones and flooding, affecting the performance of infrastructure systems. With the increase in the natural disasters in recent years, in terms of their number, magnitude, and impact, the frequency of evacuation orders is expected to rise. Mobility is crucial for infrastructure systems, supporting the prosperity, growth, and movement of communities at all levels. Transportation systems at local and regional levels serve large populations, facilitating diverse activities simultaneously, making people vulnerable to disruptions. Intelligent transportation systems have been recognized as a promising strategy to address these challenges. This chapter provides a fundamental understanding of cyclones and their impact on transportation during such events. Overall, this study offers timely and relevant information to the rapidly evolving field of intelligent transportation systems in areas prone to cyclones.
