Embedded Control of Power Converters in E‐Mobility
Abstract
This chapter discusses the embedded control of power converters in electric mobility, focusing on digital control technologies and their evolution. It explains how power electronics enhance electric vehicle (EV) performance by managing energy flow between batteries, motors, and auxiliary systems. Key converter types such as DC-DC, AC-DC, and DC-AC converters are explored alongside energy management and regenerative braking. The chapter highlights the shift from analog to digital control using microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs, emphasizing realtime embedded control strategies like PWM, predictive control, and model-based approaches. It also reviews tools like MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, and Code Composer Studio for simulation and rapid prototyping. Advanced components for EVs, including traction inverters, on-board chargers, and battery management systems, are explained with their hardware and software integration challenges. Finally, the chapter addresses design considerations for reliability, safety, and scalability in embedded control systems, enabling future-proof and efficient EV power electronics.
