EV Power Train Performance with DC Motor
Abstract
Nowadays, electric vehicles are considered very environmentally friendly, as they use little or no fossil fuels. The introduction of affordable and reliable electric vehicles has the potential to trigger the widespread adoption of electric vehicle. One of the core performance parameters of an electric vehicle is its driving motor efficiency. The power, efficiency, cost, and safety of an electric vehicle depend on its electric motor performance. The motor for EV applications should meet the requirements in terms of the size of the vehicle structure, different operating conditions, driving behaviors, and other motor parameters such as power density, and torque–speed relationships. This study discusses different features of an electric motor that make it suitable for electric vehicle applications and includes a performance analysis of a four-wheeler EV power train by taking the reference vehicle as TATA Tiago. In addition, it compares the cost per kilometer of battery electric vehicles with that of internal combustion engine vehicles.
