Abstract

In this study, we propose an innovative design modification to the traditional bicycle by replacing the conventional pedal mechanism with a hybrid power system that combines human foot power and electric dynamic support. Unlike standard pedal-based cycles, which rely solely on rider-generated force for propulsion, this new design employs a foot-stamping motion that transfers energy to the rear wheel via a mechanical drive, supplemented by an electric motor for dynamic assistance. The electric support system activates when additional power is required, such as during uphill climbs or acceleration, optimizing energy expenditure and reducing rider fatigue. This hybrid approach enhances efficiency by distributing the workload between human exertion and electric assistance, offering an eco-friendly alternative to fully motorized bicycles. We demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed system through performance simulations and prototype testing, which show a significant reduction in rider strain while maintaining the simplicity and flexibility of traditional cycling. This design opens new avenues for sustainable personal transportation, balancing human effort with technological augmentation.
