Innovating EV Charging Infrastructure
Abstract
The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) demands innovative solutions for charging infrastructure, particularly for harnessing renewable energy sources such as solar power. This study presents a promising concept: a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) for a photovoltaic (PV)-powered EV charging station (EVCS), aiming to address the challenge of power fluctuations. It includes a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) that comprises a battery and supercapacitor (SC). In the case of variations in the PV power, a quick response is required from the storage system. In addition, power fluctuations occur during the extraction of power from the storage system. A rapid change in supply cannot be compensated for using a single battery. To address these issues, a HESS with both a battery and an SC is suggested for the EV charging point powered by solar energy. The HES also helps adjust the power variations. The results were obtained using both a conventional PI regulator and ANN regulator.
