Abstract

The focus is on developing a plan for ethnographic research once a topic has been selected. The steps for research design start with the process of turning a topic into a question and then continue with careful consideration of specific research methods that can be employed effectively to answer specific research questions. With ethnography, participant-observation, interviews/conversations, and maps and charts are common methods that frequently provide the basis of a research plan. Keeping in mind both practical and ethical concerns is important in achieving an effective and executable research design.
