INTERVIEWS
Abstract
This chapter introduces the reader to interviews and more informal conversations as an essential research method for ethnography alongside participant-observation and prepares them to evaluate when formal interviews or informal conversations might be more appropriate and useful. There is a detailed discussion of the practical dimensions of conducting interviews and ethnographic conversations, including how to get started, the importance of listening, mechanisms for recording or taking notes, and what makes a good interview question.
