Abstract

Statistics is the study of the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and organization of data. Sampling is a crucial aspect of statistics that involves selecting a subset of individuals from a “population” to estimate characteristics of that population. Statistical graphs are essential tools for visualizing and understanding data. Measures of central tendency are statistical measures that describe the center or middle of a dataset. Measures of dispersion, also known as measures of variability, describe the spread or variability of a dataset. The chapter discusses three common measures of dispersion: range, variance, and standard deviation. The normal distribution, also known as the Gaussian distribution, or the “bell curve,” is a continuous probability distribution that is widely used in statistics. The binomial distribution is a discrete probability distribution that describes the number of successes in a binomial experiment. Linear correlation and regression are statistical techniques used to study the possibility of a linear relationship between two continuous variables.
