Abstract

This chapter defines the forces that make up the STEEPLE framework and provides bulleted lists of accountabilities for both leaders and employees. STEEPLE forces include Social force, Technological force, Economic force, Environmental force, Political force, Legal force, and Ethical force. Over the next five-plus years, social dynamics are going to fundamentally reshape the expectations that employees bring to the workplace. The next five-plus years will see a renegotiation of the economic contract between employees and employers, not just in terms of dollars but in terms of meaning, growth, and adaptability. In the years ahead, environmental considerations will continue to influence how organizations design their workplaces, policies, and employee experiences. Political realities, both global and domestic, are influencing how employees show up at work and what they expect from their employers. Ethical force is perhaps the most subtle and one of the most powerful forces shaping the employee experience.
