Law #5 Make People the First Principle
Abstract
A first principle is a fundamental truth/assumption that cannot be broken down further. It's the basic building block of understanding, a core concept that serves as the foundation for reasoning and decision making. Valuing employees goes beyond compensation. It's built around four powerful and distinct dimensions of value, which are: emotional, professional, social, and moral. Emotional value is how people feel at work. Professional value is how their time, talent, and contributions are recognized and rewarded. Social value is the connection they feel to others and to the mission of the company. Moral value is the fairness, integrity, and care they experience, especially during tough times. When all four values are present, employees can truly thrive and deliver. A great work life includes a great day at work; a great week at work; a great month at work; a great quarter at work; and a great year at work.
