Abstract

In 1993 one of the world's most iconic companies was dying. Today, every company stands at its own critical juncture. Whether dealing with disruptive technological innovation, rapid market shifts, global competition, economic volatility, or workforce transformation, organizations are being constantly reminded of one critical truth: Leadership matters today more than ever before. A great leader can make decisions but also engage, motivate, and inspire people to move in the direction of that decision. AI tools will greatly augment the human decision-making process. To lead in the future of work, it's not enough to be a good leader. Leaders need to adopt new roles, each with a distinct set of responsibilities, behaviors, and impacts on the employee experience. The following five archetypes represent the core ways in which future-ready leaders will shape their organizations: the orchestrator, the sensor, the energizer, the culture shaper, and the ecosystem builder.
