Abstract

This chapter aims to provide the practitioner with a complete description of the urogenital surgeries performed in rams and bucks for management purposes or as treatment. The different methods of castration, including unilateral castration of breeding males, are described. Surgical approaches to cryptorchidectomy, including the laparoscopic-assisted technique, are discussed. Surgical techniques for the preparation of teaser males include vasectomy, epididymectomy, and penile translocation. The chapter ends with a discussion of surgical techniques used for the management of urolithiasis, including tube cystostomy and urethrostomy. Indications, anesthesia, surgery, postoperative care, and complications are discussed for each technique. All surgical steps are illustrated.
