Abstract

Reproductive performance is crucial for the overall productivity of herds and flocks. This chapter discusses the prevalence of various female reproductive disorders in sheep and goats. The etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of reproductive pathologies are presented in a concise and richly illustrated manner. Congenital and acquired disorders are described for each organ (ovaries, uterus, cervix, vagina, and vulva). Polled intersex syndrome, cystic ovarian disease, and hydrometra are important pathologies in goats, and their discussion and illustration are provided in detail. The chapter concludes with a presentation of an approach to investigating poor conception rate and early pregnancy rate on the herd or flock level.
