Postpartum Diseases and Disorders
Abstract
Postpartum complications are common following dystocia or unsupervised parturition. These complications can have severe consequences on the health and reproductive ability of the female. This chapter describes in detail the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of uterine prolapse, fetal membrane retention, puerperal metritis, and postpartum hypocalcemia. Accidents such as uterine rupture, cervical tears, and necrotic vaginitis are severe complications following improper obstetrical manipulation. They may be a cause of postpartum downer female syndrome along with metabolic disorders.
