Energy Challenges in IoT‐Based WSN Deployment
Abstract
The Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely employed for a variety of purposes. One of the several difficulties in implementing IoT-based WSNs is energy usage. Mobile Wireless Sensor Networks (MWSNs) are now a growing field, and researchers are working on this field for various reasons. In comparison to static WSNs, MWSNs have longer lifetime of the network. The mobile nodes consume more power but dynamically they can collect data from various locations and so consumes less power and have more channel capacity due to its dynamic nature. The present work theoretically presented and analyzes two unique MAC methods for efficient medium access control. The two methods are Bit-Mapping MAC for MWSN (BMM-MWSN) and Contention-Based Hybrid MAC for MWSN (CBHM-MWSN), which efficiently handle the energy challenges in MWSNs. These methods aim to maximize energy efficiency while maintaining the network connectivity without compromising with important parameters such energy consumption, detection range, and network stability. Theoretical analysis indicates that the proposed methods significantly enhance network performance. The proposed research work contributes to the efforts in the direction development of energy-efficient methods for the deployment of IoT-based WSNs, which are necessary to guarantee reliable and sustainable network operations.
