Start‐ups
Abstract
This chapter discusses strategic aspects of the start-up such as the entrepreneur, the team supporting the entrepreneur, risks, and the development of a growth strategy through the business model. The purpose of financial management and the finance plan is to inform the investors of the viability of the business. Sustainable entrepreneurship is discussed considering two main types of star-ups: social and environmental. AI-based start-up doesn't differ significantly from any technology-based start-up that provides services. The chapter introduces a management science tool that can support entrepreneurs in their preparation of a business plan and the strategic trade-offs implied in building their business. The tool, called Monte Carlo simulation, provides an approach to incorporate uncertainty in the financial projections for the new business or to perform risk analysis of the new business.
