ChatGPT (AI) vs. Standardized Psychological Testing
Abstract
The pandemic has seen a rise in the growth of mental health disorders, and its effects are widespread, affecting communities at large. It has also seen significant developments in technology and artificial intelligence. As artificial intelligence gains momentum, the objectives of this study are (i) to explore the efficacy of a test of anxiety generated by artificial intelligence in comparison to a standardized test of anxiety, (ii) to assess the differences in levels of anxiety among male and female working professionals in the UAE, and (iii) to understand the levels of anxiety among working professionals across different age groups. The following objectives were studied using a standardized questionnaire, The State–Trait Anxiety Inventory, and one novel questionnaire, the Anxiety Assessment Scale. These were circulated among working professionals in the UAE via Google Forms, and ANOVA and Z -test were used to interpret the results. Findings supported the proposed hypothesis that artificial intelligence is not as developed to produce results equal to that of a standardized test of anxiety. Future recommendations are to make use of different artificial intelligence platforms to retest the efficacy of AI-generated psychological tests.
