Abstract

This chapter introduces the critical role of operational military intelligence in planning and executing military operations. Intelligence is a predictive tool that reduces uncertainty, forecasts enemy actions, and supports effective decision-making at the operational level. Operational intelligence is distinct from strategic and tactical intelligence, with unique requirements and contributions to military success. Aligning intelligence products with operational needs is a challenge due to the interplay between different levels of war and the necessity for tailored, actionable analysis. The chapter also outlines the book's structure, focusing on forecasting, integrating intelligence into planning, and bridging gaps between doctrine and practical application for junior officers, analysts, and planners.
