Abstract

The Yin-yang Therapy integrates traditional Chinese cultural wisdom with modern psychological theories to facilitate behavioural change. Rooted in the Yin-Yang concept from the Book of Changes, this approach views psychological distress as arising from excessive stubbornness, which can be balanced by restoring initiative. Yin-Yang Therapy employs a six-dimensional strategy, addressing time, action, comparisons, body, compassion and benefits, guiding clients through a structured process modelled after nature's four seasons: spring (beginning), summer (action), autumn (resolution) and winter (recuperation). Key techniques such as observation, listening and locking enable consultants to understand clients' needs and guide them effectively. By emphasising the fluidity of psychological states and the adaptability of interventions, Yin-Yang Therapy bridges Eastern and Western psychological practices, offering an alternative perspective on mental well-being. While promising, its effectiveness requires further research and adaptation to individual circumstances, ensuring it remains a flexible and client-centred method for personal growth and transformation.
