Abstract

Self-reflection plays a crucial role in leadership development, particularly within Islamic and Middle Eastern contexts, where personal accountability and introspection are deeply embedded in religious and cultural traditions. Islam encourages self-awareness as a means to strengthen one's faith and connection with Allah (SWT). The hadith, ‘Whosoever knows himself knows his Lord’, underscores the significance of self-reflection in understanding divine wisdom. Leadership coaching, when aligned with Islamic principles, supports individuals in evaluating their thoughts, actions and intentions through practices such as journaling, meditation (Muraqabah) and self-accountability (Muhasabah). By integrating Quranic guidance and prophetic teachings, leaders can foster resilience, gratitude and ethical decision-making. The process of continuous reflection enhances self-improvement, emotional intelligence and alignment with core values, reinforcing both personal and professional growth. Through structured reflection, leaders not only refine their skills but also cultivate a deep sense of purpose, integrity and responsibility within their leadership roles.
