Qadr of Allah (Divine Destiny)
Abstract
Qadr, or divine decree, is a central Islamic belief that influences leadership perspectives, particularly in Muslim-majority regions. It asserts that all events unfold according to Allah's plan, yet interpretations of Qadr can shape an individual's sense of agency and accountability. A common misconception is that fate is entirely predetermined, leading to passivity and diminished motivation. However, a more constructive interpretation aligns Qadr with free will (Ikhtiyar), emphasising personal responsibility while trusting in divine guidance. The ‘tying your camel’ principle illustrates this balance, encouraging individuals to take action while placing their trust in God. For leaders, understanding Qadr can enhance resilience by fostering acceptance of uncontrollable outcomes while maintaining motivation to strive for success. This dual perspective helps leaders navigate challenges with both determination and faith. Integrating this belief into leadership coaching can support decision-making, personal growth and emotional well-being, reinforcing motivation and resilience in times of adversity.
