Abstract

The chapter explores Asian approaches to leadership, focusing on culturally embedded frameworks that differ from Western models. It examines the interplay between collectivist values, hierarchical structures and relational dynamics in leadership practices across various Asian contexts. The chapter highlights how leadership is shaped by social harmony, familial influences and contextual adaptability rather than individualistic or transactional paradigms. It also discusses the implications of these approaches for global leadership theories, advocating for a more inclusive and context-sensitive perspective. By drawing on Indigenous knowledge and empirical studies, the chapter challenges dominant Western narratives and presents an alternative understanding of leadership effectiveness. It underscores the need for organisations and researchers to integrate culturally specific insights into leadership development programmes. The study ultimately contributes to the decolonisation of leadership discourse by positioning Asian leadership models as legitimate and valuable frameworks for both academic inquiry and practical application.
