Dyeing Mechanism of Cellulose Fibres
Abstract
Dyeing of cellulose fibres that are wet with water and have swollen pores in the dyeing liquor consists of three main steps: adsorption of dye molecules onto the surface of the fibres, diffusion of dye molecules into the fibres and fixation of dye molecules within the fibres. In this chapter, the mechanism of dye adsorption and diffusion on cellulose fibres and the factors affecting them are explained, and then information is given about the bonds that play a role in binding dye molecules to cellulose fibres and the ways that can be followed to obtain good wet fastness.
