Abstract

Cloud introduces unique and rapidly changing risks—but they cannot be managed in isolation. This chapter teaches readers how to identify, assess, and categorize cloud-specific threats such as misconfigurations, shadow IT, access misuse, and third-party exposure. It emphasizes the need to incorporate these risks into broader enterprise risk frameworks like ISO 31000, the Factor Analysis of Information Risk (FAIR), or the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations (COSO) to ensure they are properly prioritized, funded, and governed. Readers will explore risk quantification models, vendor assessment strategies, and response planning techniques that support cloud-scale environments. The chapter also highlights continuous monitoring, alerting, and reporting mechanisms that keep risk posture transparent and actionable. Special focus is given to the role of automation in tracking remediation progress and aligning risk insights with business impact. By integrating cloud risk into enterprise oversight structures, organizations can move beyond reactive firefighting and toward proactive, measurable risk reduction.
