Environmental Remediation Application of Membrane Separation Technology
Abstract
This chapter systematically explores the critical role of membrane separation technology in environmental remediation across water, air, and soil systems. Section 7.2 focuses on water treatment applications, detailing membrane-based strategies for the removal of organic micropollutants, heavy metal ions, and emerging contaminants. Section 7.3 highlights the use of membranes in air purification, with an emphasis on the control and removal of particulate matter and gaseous pollutants. Section 7.4 examines membrane-assisted soil decontamination, showcasing integrated approaches such as electrochemical systems and impermeable membrane barriers for in-situ remediation. By connecting fundamental membrane principles with real-world environmental challenges, this chapter offers a comprehensive overview of how membrane technologies can effectively restore ecological balance. It emphasizes the adaptability, selectivity, and sustainability of membrane processes, reinforcing their growing significance as a core solution in tackling pollution and achieving long-term environmental protection.
