AI in Diabetes Management
Abstract
Management of diabetes is becoming easier through artificial intelligence (AI), especially in the cases of personalized insulin doses and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). Earlier ways of treating diabetic patients are not satisfactory to every patient, as they include fixed routines and broad rules. As a game changer, AI-driven methods are making it easier and more effective to treat patients in personalized ways, which results in controlling blood sugar, lowering their risk of problems, and improving their quality of life. In this, personal devices are used to constantly check glucose levels and provide the doctors with updated data, which ultimately leads to effective and quick decisions. These methods also help in finding hypoglycemic and hyperglycemic events, which are very important for preventing serious problems from happening. Personalizing insulin doses, which is another important part of diabetes care, is made easier and more accurate by AI systems that look at things like body weight, exercise level, food, stress, and past glucose trends. One of the merits of this dynamic method is the accurate use of insulin, which avoids too much or too little insulin, which can both be bad for your health. More and more, machine learning and deep learning are being used to improve these systems. These methods use huge amounts of patient data to make predictions more accurate and tailor treatment plans to each patient's needs. Putting AI into CGM systems has led to the creation of closed-loop systems, which are also called “artificial pancreas” systems because AI handles insulin release on its own based on real-time glucose readings.
