AI‐Assisted Decision Support Systems in Chronic Disease Treatment

Recent advances in the domain of technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) have become a handy tool in the hands of medical practitioners when it comes treatment of chronic diseases. In the present chapter, the focus is on exploring the various ways AI can contribute to chronic disease care. When it comes to AI, there are many technologies that are being used for different types of purposes. In case of interpreting heavy data of patients relating information, tools like machine learning (ML) can play an important role. So is the case with natural language processing which is capable of handling large data sets. It becomes easier after the analysis of data and hence AI-DSS, i.e., AI-based decision support systems finds such hidden patterns ultimately making it easier to predict the development of disease. The technology rarely misses the pattern that any human might be missing. The technological application with the help of any of the tools may result in predictive analytics thereby able to come up with suggestions and recommendations for any individual with better accuracy in case of chronic disease management. The potential is not limited to analysing data and prescribing the solution but can also be supported by monitoring further thereby providing adaptive interventions.
