Artificial Intelligence–Driven Identification of Biomarkers for Precision Medicine Advancements Through Bioinformatics in Healthcare Applications
Abstract
The use of augmented reality (AR) in healthcare—particularly for remote medical assistance—has the potential to transform telehealth by enabling more precise and efficient surgical procedures in distant locations. This paper explores the impact of AR on remote surgery and its contribution to the growth of telemedicine, with the goal of bridging the gap between patients and skilled healthcare professionals across geographical barriers. Over the past few decades, advancements in digital communication technologies have significantly advanced telemedicine. However, delivering high-quality care to individuals in rural or underserved areas remains a challenge. One major limitation has been the lack of real-time visual feedback during remote medical procedures. This limitation has necessitated the development of innovative solutions to improve remote healthcare delivery. AR has emerged as a powerful tool to address these challenges by providing surgeons with enhanced real-time visualizations of the patient's anatomy, thereby increasing the precision of surgical interventions. In virtual surgical environments, AR enables medical teams in different locations to collaborate more effectively, allowing specialists to guide procedures in real time. By overlaying critical patient data—such as CT scans and MRI images—directly onto the patient's body, AR creates a spatial and contextual awareness that traditional telemedicine platforms cannot offer. This paper reviews case studies demonstrating the successful application of AR in surgical settings, highlighting improvements in outcomes such as shorter recovery times and increased surgical accuracy. It also examines the broader societal implications of integrating AR into telemedicine, particularly in expanding access to healthcare in remote regions. Furthermore, the discussion includes challenges related to data transmission, privacy, and ethical considerations regarding patient confidentiality. Incorporating AR into telemedicine systems represents a significant advancement—not only in enhancing surgical precision but also in expanding the reach of healthcare services globally.
