Abstract

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is a game changer because it improves the quality of care patients receive and efficiently organizes medical services. The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the future use of AI in medicine and anesthesia. Family medicine can utilize AI for personalized treatment using electronic health records, enhance patient screening and risk assessment, and manage chronic diseases through predictive analytics. Moreover, AI enables telemedicine and remote patient monitoring, which improves distribution of healthcare services to population in need, including those in rural and less accessible areas. In surgery, the assistance of AI in preoperative planning, real-time intraoperative decision-making, and individualized postoperative care can lead to improved systemic anesthetic management throughout the surgical patient's care continuum. Although these technologies present many advantages, concerns around safeguarding data, compliance, and other regulatory matters also exist. Future healthcare AI improvements are anticipated to include advanced machine learning and natural language processing, which will further enhance the efficiency, accessibility, and affordability of healthcare services. This chapter investigates specific instances to illustrate the effect of AI integration on transforming general medicine and anesthesia.
